Pearl Harbor Remembered: Live The History
– Tour Features –
Pearl Harbor Tour
The Pearl Harbor Remembered tour begins with a trip to the visitor center, where visitors are introduced to the history and significance of the Pearl Harbor attack. The center features a series of multimedia exhibits that provide an in-depth account of the events leading up to the attack, the attack itself, and its aftermath.
One of the most notable exhibits is a short documentary film that uses historical footage and interviews with survivors to give visitors a firsthand account of the attack. There are also numerous interactive displays and exhibits that allow visitors to explore the history of the attack in greater detail. For example, visitors can see artifacts from the attack, such as aircraft and weapons, and learn about the strategies and tactics used by the Japanese military.
USS Arizona Memorial
The tour of the USS Arizona Memorial typically begins with a narrated tour of the Pearl Harbor Visitor Center, which includes exhibits and displays that detail the events of the attack on Pearl Harbor. After the visitor center, the tour proceeds to the USS Arizona Memorial, where admission is provided as part of the tour package.
The USS Arizona Memorial is a sunken battleship that remains at the bottom of the harbor, serving as a somber tribute to the 1,177 sailors and Marines who lost their lives when the ship was bombed on December 7, 1941. Visitors board a Navy-operated shuttle boat to travel across the harbor to the memorial, where they can pay their respects and learn more about the attack.
Battleship Missouri
"Mighty 'Mo"
The tour of the Battleship Missouri takes visitors through the iconic vessel that has a rich and storied history. The ship was a part of many significant events including World War II, the Korean War, and the Gulf War. Visitors can explore the ship’s main deck, get a glimpse of the mighty guns that it used to defeat its enemies and walk through the narrow passageways that sailors once tread. The tour covers the three main areas of the ship: the bow, the main deck, and the stern. The feature that stands out the most on the Battleship Missouri is its massive 16-inch guns. The ship also has a surrender deck, where Japan surrendered to the Allies to officially end World War II. The Battleship Missouri is an integral part of US history and a must-visit for anyone interested in military history.
Downtown Honolulu
At the end of the tour, visitors will be guided through downtown Honolulu and discover the rich history of Hawaii. They will be awed by the stunning architecture of landmarks such as the Iolani Palace and Kawaiaha’o Church, as well as learning about the monarchy-era and the history of the Hawaiian people. They may visit the famous statue of King Kamehameha I, who united the islands under one rule. Visitors will also discover the influence of the American and Chinese cultures in Hawaii, signposted by the buildings and shops from these countries. The downtown section of the tour allows visitors to immerse themselves in the colorful and intricate history of Hawaii and gain a deeper appreciation of the diverse and fascinating culture of this beautiful island state.
